In this video, I’m going to be making a fountain pen made from my dads favorite tobacco cast in resin for father’s day.
WARNING VIDEO CONTAINS TOBACCO
It that turned out absolutely lovely but I should have worn a mask when turning and sanding as despite me joking in the video I really do think the tobacco got to me!
I’ve since purchased this really awesome respirator and am very happy with it!
So my dad loved his present of course and I’m really happy about how it turned out. I could have perhaps done a better job with the casting as there too many bubbles but that’s something that will improve with practice.
I used Aluminite and a small blowtorch to get rid of a few of the bubbles but this seemed to only get those around the surface and too much flame started to burn the resin. Since its flamable, I didn’t want to go too far!
I’m also considering buying a pressure pot as that can really help hide the bubbles but that’s an expensive piece of kit so will have to wait.
I should also brush up on some resin tutorials. Pam Harris does a few good ones and I should watch those again.
